Engaging a New Generation: A Week of Global Dialogue at Columbia Universit

A dynamic and deeply fulfilling week unfolded at Columbia University in New York, marked by high-level discussions, academic engagement, and forward-looking simulations on global governance.

As a guest of the Columbia EU Student Association, the speaker participated in a panel on the future of Europe alongside a former senior official of the European diplomatic service and France’s ambassador to the United States. The discussion highlighted both the urgency and the complexity of Europe’s strategic choices in an evolving global landscape.

At the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), a simulation exercise was led with graduate students tasked with electing the next United Nations Secretary-General, organized in cooperation with the Eurasia Group’s Institute for Global Affairs. The exercise comes at a particularly relevant moment, as the real-world selection process begins this week at the United Nations.

The visit also included participation in a two-day climate emergency negotiations simulation organized by Jeffrey Sachs’s Center for Sustainable Development and the Columbia Climate School, where the speaker mentored Team China through complex negotiation scenarios.

The week served as a powerful reminder of the importance of engaging with the next generation of global leaders and reaffirmed a strong commitment to sharing knowledge and experience in addressing the world’s most pressing challenges.
