Vuk Jeremić at Harvard: Multipolarity and the Many-Body Problem

CIRSD President Vuk Jeremić was the featured speaker at Harvard University’s Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, where he addressed the changing architecture of the international order in a talk titled “Multipolarity in the Age of Geopolitical Recession: The Many-Body Problem.”

Drawing on the “many-body problem” as a metaphor for today’s geopolitics, Jeremić examined the transition from the post-Cold War unipolar moment toward a more fragmented and contested world shaped by multiple centers of power.

He discussed the forces that have accelerated this transformation—from Russia’s estrangement from the European security order and China’s rise to the political consequences of globalization—and outlined three possible trajectories for the emerging multipolar system: competitive blocs, managed coexistence, or cooperative multipolarity.

Led by Christoph Mikulaschek, Director of Undergraduate Student Programs at the Weatherhead Center and Assistant Professor at Harvard’s Department of Government, the discussion focused on the challenges of preserving international order and effective global governance in an increasingly plural and multipolar world.
